Ladies lose out in first League game (Sunday 26-April-2009)
 Fulham Irish 4-04 Parnells 3-09
In blistering sunshine at Greenford on Sunday morning, the Ladies were
defeated by Parnells. Fulham Irish took the lead through a goal from
Leah Horan in the 2nd minute. This was quickly cancelled out by a goal
from Hannah Noonan, the London player, who had a fine game at
midfield. In the 12th minute, another slick attack from Fulham Irish
released Horan again for her second goal of the game. More good play
be Nonnan followed as she created another goal and 2 points for her
team, while Brigid Doyle brought off 3 good saves to keep the score
down. Good play involving Marieke Johnson, Laurin Duncan and Michelle
Murphy released Horan again and she scored her hatrick goal. Parnells
moved up the field again and scored a point to bring the scores level
at half time.
The second half started with a point for Fulham Irish from Michelle Murphy but Parnells quickly slotted home to level the sides. There followed a series of matched points from both sides with Leah Horan and Michelle Murphy combining well up front for Fulham but suffered from a lack of clean ball supply as the team tired. Fulham's man marking let them down in several areas of the pitch. Brigid Doyle had a great game in goal and made numerous excellent saves throughout the match to deny Parnells crucial goals. Horan also stepped up to her new role as captain and marshalled the team well through the third quarter.
In the last five minutes, with Fulham leading by 2 points, Parnells pieced together an excellent team move to score the winning goal and followed this up with a point scored from Fulham's kick-out.
Fulham had stand-out performances from Michelle Murphy, Sarah Allen, Leah Horan, Blathnaid Farrell, Laurin Duncan and Leah Williams.
