Seniors defeat St Brendans to reach Conway Cup final    (Sunday 26-April-2009)

Fulham Irish 0-12 St Brendans 0-05

On a beautiful sunny afternoon at Ruislip on Sunday, Fulham Irish put up a good performance to reach the final of the 2008 Conway Cup, where they will play Tir Chonaill Gaels.

Playing against the wind in the first half, Fulham Irish settled much the quickest, racing to a 0-03 lead inside 5 minutes, all three scores coming through excellent finishes from Darren Newell. Killian Phair scored St Brendans 1st point in the 8th minute which was quickly followed by a point from Noel Nicholson for Fulham Irish. A period of St Brendans pressure followed where they created four chances but took none before a good move from Fulham allowed Newell in for his 4th point. Cathal Donohue fired over a point for Brendans in the 20th minute. More wasted chances followed before Barry McCaffrey and Eamon O'Cuiv scored fine points for Fulham Irish to leave them leading 0-07 to 0-02 at half time.

The second half started with lots of wasted chances from both sides before Phair fired a point. Brendan Quinn, just on as a substitute, scored another point for Fulham Irish before Joe Coulter added a point for Brendans. Brian O'Reilly, also just after coming on, fired over a sweet point from out on the right. This was quickly followed by a Nicholson effort. As the game petered out, O'Cuiv added another and the final score of the game was a fine effort from the 45 by Nicholson.

As well as those mentioned, Donal Conlon, Ken McGrath, Andrew Davidson and Kevin McElroy had good games for Fulham Irish.
