Neasden Gaels defeated in League (Sunday 10-May-2009)
Fulham Irish 2-09 Neasden Gaels 0-12
In sunny but blustery conditions at Ruislip on Sunday, Fulham Irish
came out on top in another intense battle with Neasden.
The game started with defences on top and the first shot at the target
took 6 minutes to arrive when neat play released Darren Newell to race
away to score a point. Stephen Lynch levelled for Neasden in the 10th
minute, following good work by Padraig Duffy, who followed up with a
point himself in the 12th minute. The first goal came in the 15th
minute. A high ball from Harry Murphy into the full forward line saw
Eamon O Cuiv soar over John Feeney to win the ball and release the
ball to Newell to finish to the net. Newell added another point following good work by Barry McCaffrey before Peadar Friel added a point for Neasden.
Noel Nicholson lashed over a free after a foul on O Cuiv before Dave Connolly added another point following a fluent Fulham Irish move. Lynch added another point for Neasden before Brendan Quinn decided to get in on the scoring, firing over 2 points in the dying seconds of the half to leave a half time lead of 1-06 to 0-04.
The 2nd half started with Neasden slowly getting back into the game as they scored 4 unanswered points through Barry Comer, Tony Hughes, Michael Duffy and Friel as Fulham Irish wasted the 4 chances they created in the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half
The decisive moment came in the 20th minute when a move started by Roger Morgan deep in his own half, saw Fulham Irish work the ball down the field where it ended in the hands of Quinn who finished to the net to increase the lead to 4 points. Comer got another point for Neasden before the next play down field saw Quinn add another point. Second half substitute, Marty Hughes got in on the scoring with a point as he drove through the middle. 3 late points for Neasden, a 45 from Lynch and a couple for Padraig Duffy was too little too late as the game reached it's conclusion.
As well as those mentioned, Mark Daly, John Fitzgerald, Donal Conlon, Andrew Davidson and Diarmaid Maher had good games for Fulham Irish while Philip McCone and David Carthy played well for Neasden Gaels.
