Reserves through to Championship final (Monday 14-September-2009)
 Fulham Irish 1-10 Kingdom/Kerry Gaels 1-03
At Ruislip on Sunday afternoon, Fulham Irish Reserves secured another
tilt at the Reserve Championship final beating Kingdom/Kerry Gaels in
the process.
Playing with the strong breeze in the opening half, Fulham Irish
started well but failed to convert the chances created. In the 5th
minute, Kingdom/Kerry Gaels took the lead when sloppy defending
allowed Noel Dunning to shoot to the net. A free and a point from
play from Tiarnan O'Rourle followed to reduce the deficit as the
Fulham Irish team settled into the game. With Tommy Pierce, Mark
McElroy and Niall Haughey dominating the middle, chances were being
created but only started to be convertedin the 19th minute when Ollie
McKinley fired over a point. He quickly followed this with a pointed
free and was joined on the score sheet by Haughey bursting from
midfield.
The decisive moment of the half came in the 23rd minute, a defence
splitting pass in was quickly moved on by John Enright for Barry
Basquille to fist to the net. Points from Stephen O'Flaherty and
Enright completed the scoring for the half leaving Fulham Irish 1-07
to 1-00 ahead at the break.
Now playing against the wind, Fulham Irish played a possession game
but struggled to get the ball upfield at times. Kingdom/Kerry Gaels
reduced the deficit by 3 points in the opening 12 minutes of the
half. O'Flaherty added another point for Fulham Irish in the 16th
minute and after this point Fulham Irish were always on top, having a
goal disallowed for square ball and adding 2 more points through
O'Flaherty and Eoin Lanigan.
As well as those mentioned, Sean Casey, Paul O'Riordan, Mark McVey,
Martin Conway and Conor O'Callaghan had good games for Fulham
Irish.
