Conway Cup defeat to Parnells    (Sunday 27-September-2009)

Fulham Irish 1-09 Parnells 2-10

In a typical end of season affair at a sunny Greenford on Sunday, Paul Quinn's last game in charge of the Fulham Iris seniors ended in battling defeat to Parnells.

Parnells settled quickly, firing over three points without reply, Colm Fuller, Alan Murray and Eoin Cronin raising the white flag. Ollie McKinley finally registered a point for Fulham Irish in the 10th minute. Almost immediately good play from Parnells released Daire O'Donovan to score a fine goal. Two pointed frees from Harry Murphy followed before Fuller and Murray pointed again, both coming from errors in the Fulham Irish defence. Stephen O'Flaherty scored another point for Fulham Irish on the stroke of half time.

The second half started with a goal and a point for O'Donovan to extend the Parnells lead in the opening 4 minutes. Fulham Irish now started to dominate the ball creating 7 consecutive chances but only converting a point from McKinley. Parnells added another pair of points through Enda Fallon and Fuller. A drive forward from Ken McGrath in the 21st minute saw the ball nestle in the back of the net. A point from Donal Conlon followed before Barry Basquille had a shot at goal which drifted wide. Basquille fired over a point which was quickly followed by points from McGrath and Murphy. With time running out, O'Flaherty went in search of the leveliing goal and his goal bound shot along the ground bobbled at the last second and went around the post. Parnells managed to get down the field in the last minute to add the insurance point.

As well as those mentioned, Eoin Davis, Edward O'Hare(playing his second game of the day having won a London U-21 Championship medal earlier in the day), Martin Conway and Mark McElroy played well.
