Seniors suffer league defeat    (Sunday 12-July-2009)

Fulham Irish 2-06 St Kiernans 1-11

On a sunny afternoon at Ruislip, this league game was a keenly contested affair with St Kiernans running out deserved winners after a strong second half display.

Following a couple of early misses from Fulham Irish, St Kiernans quickly raced to a 3 point lead, Adrian Moyles, Tom McGahern and Mark Mulholland all registering scores. Dave Connolly opened the Fulham Irish account in the 9th minute before Harry Murphy scored a fine point to narrow the gap further. A break down in midfield saw the ball played to McGahern to knock over his second point. A foul on Eamon O Cuiv by Chris Byrne followed, the referee moving it forward for dissent before Connolly fired over the bar. Points from midfielder Derek Hagan and Moyles extended the St Kiernans lead as the half closed. With the whistle approaching, o cuiv raced through to point and on the stroke of half time, substitute Donal Conlon calmly stepped around the goalkeeper before rolling the ball to the net to give Fulham Irish the minimum advantage at the break.

Now playing against the wind, St Kiernans started the second half with real determination, carving out seven chances in the opening 10 minutes of the half but wastefully only converting one, point from Michael O'Donoghue. Among the chances were a goal chance for o'Sullivan, saved superbly by Mark Daly. Murphy gave the Fulham Irish lads a boost in the 10th minute, drilling a delightful shot over Brian Mulrooney in the St Kiernans goal. The boost lasted less than a minute as St Kiernans worked the ball to Moyles, who scored a fine goal after a barnstorming run. O'Sullivan added a free before Connolly fired over another free, following a foul on Murphy. A point from Moyles in the 26th minute was cancelled by a fine point from Connolly on the run. With the game in injury time, it was St Kiernans who took the initiative adding 2 more points to seal the victory.

As well as those mentioned, Ken Mcgrath, Eoin Davis, Tommy Pierce, Keving McElroy, Gary O'Hare and Barry McCaffrey played well for Fulham Irish while Barry Dowling, Billy O'Mahony, Ryan Scullion and jmes Donaghy played well for St Kiernans.
