Moindearg defeated in League (Saturday 13-June-2009)
 Fulham Irish 3-05 Moindearg 0-11
At Ruislip on Saturday evening, Fulham Irish senior team escaped with
a little deserved victory over a wasteful Moindearg team who were well
prepared and up for the challenge but were undone by some woeful
finishing while Fulham Irish survived by moments of class that
delivered three fine goals.
A strong start by Moindearg saw the tone set as they wasted a couple
of early chances before midfielder, David Hogan slotted over. Fulham
irish showed their first glimpse of class as the ball was moved
quickly towards goal with Brendan Quinn popping up smash the ball past
Mark Terry in the Moindearg goal. More wasted chances by Moindearg
followed before Gary Conroy cut inside to score for them. The next
score came from Edward O'Hare, the wing back breaking forward, exchanging
passes with Barry McCaffrey before storming forward and firing over.
The subsequent kick out from Terry was broken down by Mark McElroy to
Noel Nicholson, who following a fine run, shot over to extend the
lead. Moindearg produced their most productive spell for 5 minutes
creating 5 chances and coming away with 4 points, one each for Conor
Conneelly, Stephen Fox, James Mooney and Noel Ribbon, giving them the
lead in the process.
With half time approaching, the Fulham Irish lads finally set about
showing their class. Mark McElroy won the ball in midfield, quickly
moved it forward to Quinn whose darting run created the space for a
pass to Barry Basquille who hammered his shot past Terry to the net. 2
minutes later, more good passing play involving Nicholson, Quinn and
Kevin McElroy saw McCaffrey steal in behind the defence and again he
gave Terry no chance. A foul on Darren Newell followed, allowing Quinn
to kick the last point of the half.
The second half almost exclusively belonged to Moindearg as they exerted pressure on the Fulham Irish posts. They created six scoring chances, converting only two in the opening ten minutes of the half before Fulham Irish had created any chance, the points coming from Fox and Liam Gillespie. The few times Fulham Irish got near the scoring zone, the chances were wasted. Moindearg would create 10 more scoring chances in the game, scoring only 2 points through substitute, Niall O'Shea. A goal chance in the 20th minute of the half was well saved by Mark Daly and pushed away for 45.
The game ended in controversy when the referee harshly red carded Quinn who was pushed to the ground by a Moindearg player who then proceeded to hold him down and appear to strike him. Liam Barry protesting on Quinn's behalf also received his marching orders. When the game restarted, the 13 players of Fulham Irish ignited into to life and create 2 chances for Kevin McElroy to score the final points of the game.
As well as those mentioned, Eoin Davis, Colin Reilly and Harry Murphy had decent games for Fulham Irish while Connie Cummins and Tom Gormley played well for Moindearg.
