Ladies defeat Claddagh Gaels in Championship    (Sunday 21-June-2009)

Fulham Irish 4-15 Claddagh Gaels 3-03

Struggling to field a team due to the number of girls away for the fixture, late arrival of others, the Fulham Irish Ladies showed admirable strength of the squad as the game started with Fulham Irish playing with 13 players to the opposition 15 but the Fulham girls would start strongly, Olivia Walsh breaking from centre back to score the opening point. Leah Horan quickly followed up to score a goal in the 4th minute. A few missed chances followed before Jessica Hyde's speculative effort eluded the goalkeeper and fell to the net. Horan scored a point in the 11th minute before Norma Kearney added another. Claddagh Gaels got their first score in the 13th minute, a punt towards goal sailed passed Breege Doherty in the Fulham Irish goal.

Unaffected by the set back and now only one player short of a team, Fulham Irish continued to attack, Michelle Murphy and Kearney adding a pair of points. Horan added a free following a foul on Kearney, before despatching another from play. An outrageous point from Hyde followed, swinging over from an acute angle out on the right after good run from midfield. The half ended with a goal and a point from Claddagh Gaels to leave the half time score 2-08 to 2-01.

Now up to 15, the second half started with Claddagh Gaels attacking. A shot at goal looked to be going wide but rebounded off the bar. The attempted clearance was miscued and a goal resulted. Fulham Irish up their game continue to attack and after missing a few chances, Horan popped up with 1-01 in 2 minutes to extend the lead. The Norma show started then with Kearney firing over 4 points in an 8 minute period. In the same period Horan added another goal and point before Murphy got in on the act to finished the scoring with a nice finish. As well as those mentioned, Sinead Lavery, Sarah Allen, Rachel Ryan, Rebecca Taylor, Blathnaid Farrell, Kate O'Brien, Penny Birchall, Lisa Moran and Paula Cuinnea all contributed well to the win.
