Provincial Championship win for Ladies    (Sunday 19-April-2009)

Fulham Irish Ladies 2-09 Sean McDermotts, Birmingham 3-05

The first game of the season saw an encounter with Sean McDermotts, Birmingham in the Provincial Championship of Britain. Playing with wind, Fulham Irish started racing into a 1-07 to 1-01 lead in the first half. Using the elements well, the Fulham girls were dominant at midfield and in the forward line, Leah Horan scoring 1-03, Norma Kearney & Kate O'Brien scoring 2 points each, all the scores coming in the opening 25 minutes of the half. The McDermott's girls gave themselves some hope by scoring a goal and a point in the last minutes of the half.

The second half was far more even as the the Fulham Irish girls were tiring and the Birmingham girls came into the game more as they carried the game to Fulham and were rewarded with 2 more goals and 4 points with only points from Horan and Christina Duffy in reply for Fulham Irish as their moves were continually broken down or resulted in poor finishing. With time running out and Fulham Irih now down by 2, an attack by the Fulham girls resulted in a free on the 14 metre line. Horan steadied herself before launching an unstoppable shot to the net and give Fulham Irish the overall result they deserved.

As well as those mentioned, Nicola Traynor, Leah Williams, Blathnaid Farrell, Sarah Allen, Laurin Duncan & Aoife Synnott had good games for Fulham Irish.

Team: B Doyle, A Kelly, N Traynor, B Doherty(C Duffy), B Farrell, L Moran, L Williams, S Allen, L Duncan, A Synnott, N Kearney, K O'Brien, P Burchall(E Sinnott), L Horan, R Ryan
