Ladies secure Provincial win (Sunday 26-July-2009)
Fulham Irish 5-07 Tara Junior 1-04
Playing Tara Junior for the second week in a row, Fulham Irish Ladies put in another storming first half performance to gain another win in the Provincial Junior Championship.
Settling quickly, Fulham Irish got off to a flying start with early points from Leah Horan and Sarah Allen. Rebecca Mills scored a fine point for Tara in the 8th minute and then, Tara took the lead, a goal crashed to the net by Hannah Treacy while the Fulham Irish defence just watched on.
This setback was immediately dealt with as the ball was moved swiftly down field and dispatched to the net by Horan. A poor kick out from Claire Julian followed, the ball sent back in by Allen and hammered to the net by Horan again. Norma Kearney escaped the clutches of her marker to fire over a point in the 14th minute. Another poor kick out was claim by Fulham Irish. The ball was worked to Jessica Hyde who ran at the defence, drawing O'Sullivan before popping the pass to Kearney to score another goal for her team. Horan quickly added a point before Kearney added the teams 4th goal of the half.
A rare foray upfield by Tara saw Mills make a good run and score another point in the 19th minute. Kearney added another point before a few missed chances followed. A free in front of the posts allowed Mills to add her 3rd point on the stroke of half time with Fulham Irish leading 4-05 to 1-03.
Unlike the previous week, there would be no comeback attempt by Tara. The game was complete domination by Fulham Irish but a combination of poor finishing and solid defending kept scores to a minimum, Horan adding anoter 1-01 to her tally and Michele Murphy chipping in with a point. For Tara, of the 5 chances created, one a point from Nicole Borzatti troubled the score keeper.
As well as those mentioned, Brigid Doyle, Nicola Traynor, Aoife Synnott, Aveen Kelly, Niamh kelly and Marina Quinlan played well for Fulham irish while Jane Bryant, Mel Morris and Rachel O'Halloran tried hardest.
