Fulham Irish defeat Tara in Conway Cup    (Sunday 26-July-2009)

Fulham Irish 3-08 Tara 1-12

At Greenford on Sunday, fulham Irish and Tara played out a competitive game of football as both teams sought to overcome round 1 championship defeats.

Playing with the wind in the opening half, Tara raced into an early lead through points from Joe Harte and Paul McDermott, operating in an unfamiliar full forward role. With chances hard to come by, it was in the 10th minute that Fulham Irish opened up the Tara defence, John Fitzgerald picking his spot and finishing expertly. Following a couple of missed chances for both teams, the next score, in the 20th minute, was another Fulham Irish goal, Brendan Quinn the scorer following a weaving run down the left. Tara finished the half strongly, taking points through McDermott, Shane Canning and Ollie Coffey before another slick move freed Quinn to score his 2nd goal leaving the half time score, 3-00 to 0-05

The opening 17 minutes of the second period saw Fulham Irish dominate the chances with points from Donal Conlon, Andrew Davidson and Brian O'Reilly. Tara had a couple of Harte frees to keep with in range. The 18th to the 24th minute section of the game belonged exclusively to Tara as they stormed forward at will, creating six chances but more importantly converting 5 to take a 2 point lead with 6 minutes to play. Coffey and Harte were at the centre of these scores.

The last six minutes would see Fulham Irish take over and using the advantage of the wind well, fired over 5 unanswered points, one each for Conlon and Stephen O'Flaherty and 3 fine points for Noel Nicholson. a consolation score for Coffey with the last kick of the game followed as Fulham Irish move on to the semi finals.
