League win against Kingdom/Kerry Gaels    (Tuesday 26-May-2009)

Fulham Irish 2-11 Kingdom/Kerry Gaels 0-10

In a game played in breezy conditions at Greenford on Tuesday evening, Fulham Irish secured their second win of the 2009 division 1 league in what was ultimately a dull encounter as Fulham Irish absorbed the pressure from the opposition and ruthlessly hit them on the counter.

Cathal McCallion opened the scoring with a fine point for Kingdom/Kerry Gaels in the 3rd minute. This was quickly added to by the impressive John Holly, easily his teams best performer. An exquisite strike from Harry Murphy opened the Fulham Irish account. A slick move on the counter saw good work from Kevin McElroy, Brian O'Reilly and marty Hughes before Dave Connolly finished to the net.More good work from O'Reilly free Connolly to add another point before Brendan Quinn stepped up to score his first point, following a foul on Eamon O Cuiv. Connolly scored another point before another smart move saw Hughes create the chance for O Cuiv to volley to the net.£ more points from Murphy, Quinn and Kevin McElroy ensured Fulham Irish went into the break with an eight point advantage.

Playing against the wind, Fulham Irish started to play more possession football and restricted the Kingdom/Kerry men to shots from distance. The half had all the hallmarks of two teams playing out time with little in the way of good play from either side. Colm Foody fired over a couple of points while Holly helped himself to 3 more points. A penalty for a foul on Jacko Murphy was well saved by Mark Daly. Quinn with 3 points, Connolly and Murphy with 1 each completed the scoring in the game.

As well as those mentioned, Ken McGrath, John Fitzgerald, Eoin Davis, Barry Basquille, Mark mcElroy and Diarmaid Maher played well for Fulham Irish while Eoin Costello and Ryan McStravick done well for Kingdom/Kerry Gaels.

Team: M Daly, E Davis, J Fitzgerald, K McGrath, B Basquille, H Murphy, G O'Hare, M McElroy, D Maher, B O'Reilly, B Quinn, K McElroy, M Hughes, E O Cuiv(N Haughey), D Connolly
