Seniors draw with Tara in league (Tuesday 16-June-2009)
 Fulham Irish 1-12 Tara 2-09
On a bright and sunny evening at Greenford on Tuesday, Fulham Irish
and Tara played out a draw in a game both teams would feel they could
have won with a bit more luck.
The game started with Fulham Irish in the ascendancy, playing fast
fluent football and taking a 0-04 to 0-00 lead in the opening 12
minutes . Dave Connolly opened the scoring on the end of fine move
before Noel Nicholson slotted over a 45. Darren Newell, on as an early
sub for the luckless Ollie McGrath, fired over a brace. Tara scored
their first point in the 13th minute, a good point from Joe Harte.
Points from Connolly and Nicholson followed before Tara managed to
open up the Fulham Irish defence, Cathal Murphy slipping the ball to
the net past Mark Daly. Harte added another point before Nicholson and
Newell fired over points again. As the half entered injury time, Paul
McDermott and Eamon O Cuiv exchanged points to leave Fulham Irish with
a one point lead at the break.
Fulham Irish immediately extended the lead after the break, a raid down the left freeing Kevin McElroy to score. The games decisive score came in the 5th minute of the second half when a hopeful punt at the posts by Ollie Coffey completely deceived Daly and fell to the net to give Tara the lead. An injury to Murphy delayed the game for 15 minutes as he was carried off the field on a strecther with an ankle injury.
The Fulham Irish lads continued to dominate the ball but 6 scoring chances created fro the 5th to the 12th minute all went awry. Substitute Damien mcKenna extended the Tara lead to 2 in the 13th minute before Fulham broke down field to create a goal chance, which Nicholson rifled to the net. Paul mcDermott burst forward from centre back to level the game with a point. The last phase of the game saw each team create 4 chances but only convert 2 each, 2 points for Nicholson and 1 each for Harte and Daniel O'Mahony. Tara had the better chances to win the game at the end with the ball rebounding off the bar and Ken McGrath saving on the goal line.
As well as those mentioned, Eoin Davis, John Fitzgerald, Harry Murphy, Barry Basquille and Brian O'Reilly played well for Fulham Irish while Darren Gallagher played well for Tara.
