Ladies win at Southwark Festival    (Saturday 4-July-2009)

Fulham Irish 10-06 Dulwich Harps 0-07

Playing the third round of the Junior Championship at the Southwark Irish Festival, a threadbare squad set about continuing the teams winning run when the 13 available girls took to the field to cope with the full strength Harps girls. To add to the trepidation, Norma Kearney lost the toss, meaning playing the first half into the strong wind.

The Fulham Irish girls knew work rate was the key and set about easing the nerves with a hugely impressive start, Paula Cuinnea firing over a point followed by a goal from midfielder, Marina Quinlan. A couple of missed chances followed before Leah Horan and Jessica Hyde added goals, Hyde's a high effort in over the grasping goalkeeper. Hyde added her second goal minutes later, this time taking her marker on and rattling the net with power.

Recovering from such a pulsating start, Dulwich Harps created their first chance in the 11th minute, a free scored by Sarah Johnson. Using the wind better now, they created some more chances as they deployed their numerical advantage better, scoring points through Fiona Fox and Johnson again. Fulham Irish still created chances but 6 of the 8 chances were wasted, the 2 points coming from Kearney. Dulwich finished the half strongly with 2 more pointed frees from Johnson and a neat effort from Kelly Webster, to leave the half time score 4-04 to 0-06.

Now playing with the wind and Nicola Traynor due to leave for a concert in Wembley!, the Fulham Irish girls took advantage of the wind to quickly add a goal and point through Quinlan and Horan. Hyde added another point for Fulham Irish before Mags Gallagher scored what proved to be Dulwich Harps last score, a point.

With Traynor heading away in a taxi, the last 15 minutes saw total Fulham Irish domination as the goal was breached 5 times, one each for Cuinnea, Kearney, Quinlan, Horan and Hyde.

As well as those mentioned, Brigid Doyle, Lisa Moran, Sarah Allen, Breege Doherty, Rebecca Taylor, Ali Donnelly and Rhian Kelly all contributed to the win.

Team: B Doyle, L Moran, S Allen, B Doherty, R Taylor, A Donnelly, R Kelly, N Traynor, M Quinlan, J Hyde, P Cuinnea, N Kearney, L Horan.
