Fulham Irish Reserves 3-04 Heston Gaels 3-09
In another first for the club, Fulham Irish sent out the Reserve team
with two Americans, Sean Kelly and Robert Den Hartog lining up for
action. Winning the toss and deciding to play with the breeze, Fulham
Irish settled quickly but both early chances drifted wide from boot of
Terry Vincent. Heston got going then with Thomas Hickey scoring 2
points, the first a fine effort into the wind. Billy Blackford burst
through from midfield to add another to cement their solid start. In
the 12th minute, a high ball in from Paraic Curtis broke for Dermot
Flanagan to volley to the net to level the scores. A poor kick out
followed, the ball sent back in by Andrew Lavery was broken by Flanagan to Kevin Gartlan, who pointed his effort. Apoint from Vincent followed to extend the lead before good play from Heston saw Kevin O'Sullivan fire past Barney McCusker in the Fulham Irish goal. This was followed by another point from Michael Keane. The half finished with a goal for each team, The Fulham Irish effort a stab home from John Ward after more mayhem caused by Flanagan while Niall Gallagher netted for the Heston men.
The second half started with a bang as the Fulham Irish created some good chances without success before Sean Scanlon and Keane extended the Heston lead. Then, a high ball in was superbly fielded by substitute Ciaran O'Kane who turned sharply and drove the ball to the top corner of the net to reduce arrears to a solitary score.
The much sough victory wasn't to be as Heston finished the stronger using the wind to add anothe goal and three points to the two points from Vincent and Curtis scored for Fulham Irish.
As well as those mentioned, Lorcan Fox, Willie Fogarty, Liam Frawley Mark McVey, Brendan Dolan, Eoin Lanigan and Conor Greely all battled hard for Fulham Irish.
